Pallet Garden: A Raised Garden for Cheap

June 17, 2014 by Andrea 4 Comments

Raised gardens have become very popular over the last few years.  They’re simple to build and fairly inexpensive.  Well how about building a raised garden out of pallets?

I have plenty of  pallets  lurking in my backyard at the moment and why not use what I already have.  So the garden project began.

It’s kind of rustic, rugged and fits beautifully next to my pallet shed.  If you haven’t checked out my little pallet shed, click here.

First I grabbed a few pallets and cut the bottom portions off to the height I wished to make my bed.

After cutting each pallet, I attached boards to the outside of each pallet.  I then placed the pallet sections side by side and connected each section by over lapping boards on top.  The boards on top create a more finished look and also gives me a place to rest or place a container for harvesting.

This photo shows you a view from inside. Ignore the concrete rocks, they’re hiding.

I then added a few boards to cover the seems between the pallet sections.

All that was left was to add dirt and plant some vegetables.

They look pretty happy in their little junk pallet home.

The best part of the project, it was free.   Free projects, makes the best projects.

If you’re lovin it leave me a comment below.  Thanks for stopping by.

I love this idea!! I have about a dozen pallets sitting here that were going to go into the firepit, but this garden is a much better use of the pallets. I will be doing this project next spring (with help from my husband).

Did you line it all in blk plastic? If not, how does the dirt stay in?
    Thanks!

No plastic needed. I nailed the boards close enough so the dirt wouldn’t escape. Thanks for asking!
