Hey, I’m so glad you stopped by. Today, I’m sharing my latest DIY project. I added open shelving in the kitchen to accent the rustic hood. The shelves accent the hood and they allow for a place to add color to the room.
It just so happened I had the perfect brackets in the basement for the open shelving in the kitchen.
I dusted the brackets off and spray painted them black.
To hang the brackets in the desired location, I used 3in. wall anchors.
Then, I cut 2in x 8in boards to the desired lengths.
Each board was stained using a dark walnut stain.
I then arranged the red items and adjusted the shelves to the perfect height for the items.
After moving items and shelves around, I finally achieved the look I was going for.
And, one lonely basket. (It’s empty at the moment but not for long.)
I envision something red!
Eventually, I will add a few more items and arrange things as I dig through my stash in the basement. But, for now, I’m loving the pop of color.
What do you think about the color? Love it or leave it?

I have always loved the rustic look. You picked just the colors that would look great in my home, as well! Definitely pinned it 🙂 Tonight my Wonderful Wednesday Blog Hop of the week goes live (7pm ET Tues) I would love it if you would stop by and share this and other great posts 🙂

Thanks. Rustic red is my favorite color. No matter what color scheme I decorate with I always end up including it somewhere. Thanks for stopping by!
I love open shelving – I did something similar in our country farm home but I just took off the cabinet doors and repainted. I don’t think I’ll have doors on cabinets ever again. Has made cleaning up so much faster and quieter. Love that red – stunning!
Thanks for commenting. I totally agree what a difference it makes without the opening and closing of the cabinet doors. That’s a definite bonus!
Oh my goodness I love your rustic open shelving, especially when paired with that fabulous range hood. The pop of red in your dishes is like the pearls with the little black dress – very nice!
Thank you so much for the wonderful comment. I’m so glad you like it.
Thank you for sharing this week at Brag About It link party on VMG206 (Mondays at Midnight). I plan to feature you next week!

Thanks, Megin! It’s an honor.
I love these open shelves! You did such a great job and that hood is AMAZING! Love for you to stop over and share at The Creative Circle Link Party today live at 9:00 a.m.
Sweet! I love new parties.
I love those red dishes! Your shelving turned out really well. Leave the colors, they are great. The thickness of the wood works great and match that awesome hood. Thanks for sharing with us at Merry Monday.
Thanks, Shirley. I’m so glad you stopped by!
Doggone it I have been wanting open shelves like yours since we bought our house. Not conducive however to open shelving, too dusty and so dirty in here from wind and heater ducts. I would love that look so much but everything would be dusty, yuk all the time, especially in summer when I love to open windows and doors when cooler turned off. Your range hood is fantastic, awesome style. Did you build it?
Your shelves look so perfect with stain on shelves and your sassy red dishes. Guess I’ll have to admire your shelves/range hood and be satisfied with that or open shelves would just make more dusting/work for me. Dad gum it anyway. lol. Might have to think about it some more maybe?
Happy New Year and weekend
I totally agree with the dust issue. I’m sure it would be a lot of extra work to keep things clean. I live inside the city and my windows are usually down most of the time due to winter and hot summers. Unfortunately, we only have one window and door on the west side of our home so breeze isn’t something that rarely flows through our house. Plus, we have a house on both the north and south side of our home. So again, not much breeze. (sigh) Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.
Love open shelving – what a fun way to display your pretty red dishes! Love the bright pops of color it brings to the space 🙂 Thanks so much for linking up at The DIY Collective! We hope to see you next week 🙂
Thanks, Erica. I’ll be sure to link up!
