You have finally purchased that new home that you have been dreaming of for years – it is bigger, better and it has everything you need to be happy. Or maybe you built it from scratch. However, as the date of the move approaches, you realize that there is a lot more stress to it.
There are so many things to organize and set up, so many things to pack and think about and you are not sure how to go about it. If you are as lost as anyone would be on this important occasion, here are some tips on how to organize a great, stress-free move.
Dedicate boxes to your most essential things
Once you bring all of your things and boxes into your new home, it will be much harder to find those things that you really need in order to set everything up properly and be comfortable while unpacking. This is why it is a good idea to pack one box with tools, cleaning equipment, parts and anything else you might need – label it so that it is easy to find too.
Likewise, pack a box with essentials for the first night or the first few hours like soap, toothbrushes, some extra clean clothes, bedding and whatever else you think you will need – it all depends on your moving plan.
Lists will save you a lot of time and nerves. Write everything down so that you do not forget it. Check things off as you finish them and you will know where to start and what to do next. This way you will not feel like you are stuck in one place, but like you are actually accomplishing something.

Clean everything up
You’ll feel much better in your new home if you clean it first. You could hire a company to do it if you don’t really have the time or you could do it yourself if you don’t feel like spending the extra money.
Cleaning the house is not an essential thing since most people will clean the house for you before you move in. However, you’ll feel a lot more at home if you have it cleaned before you put all of your things in it.
Set up the rooms that you need the most first
This is the best way to go about unpacking. You don’t want to set up the kitchen first and then realize that you have to assemble your bed and set up your bedroom when it’s late and you are tired.
Unpack your bedroom, bathroom or any other room you think you are going to use the most. For example, if you work from home, it’s best that you take care of that area first.

Take out all of your important documents and organize them properly so that you don’t end up losing everything in the process. You’ll find it extremely valuable to have everything sorted out in one place in the first few days in your new home.“
Plan to have your children and pets taken care of on the day of the move
For young children and pets, moving and unpacking is boring and it could possibly be dangerous. It’s best that you organize some kind of care for them, especially on the day of the move.
“Children and pets can add the extra stress to parents since they can’t both take good care of them and unpack, assemble and do all of the other things move-related. And the move is not very interesting for children and pets either. So, for everyone’s sake, children and pets should be left with relatives or some other kind of care during that first day.” says Bailey Mills, a founder of State of Writing.
Moving is never easy but there are some things that you can do to make it less stressful for you and your family. In order to be prepared, you should prepare your essentials and organize your time as much as possible. Overall, remember that all that stress will pass in a few days and you’ll be happy in your new home.
