Have you noticed the change in watermarks on my photos? Why should you watermark your work?
It started last week when I came across a pin that showed you how to check for blogs that are using your images. I decided to give it a shot. Guess what, I had a few blogs that featured my work without my knowledge. That really wasn’t a big deal because they left everything intact. The original watermarks and links to my blog post were present and working. It was really nice to see bloggers take interest in some of my projects.
Till…
It was all fine and dandy till I stumbled on a site that didn’t play by the copyright rules. The site not only used my photos, but they cropped out the watermark that I placed on the bottom of the photo. They combined more then one of my posts and rewritten their words on how to complete the project. I was blown away. No where on the post was my blog mentioned and no credit was give at all. I was very upset.
After browsing the sites posts I also found other projects from blogs that I frequent in the same fashion. No watermarks, no credit and everything written as though they were the ones that actually created the project. This person not only stole from me but people I admire and look up to. It was heart breaking.
How can you stop this from happening to you? I suggest you watermark your photos in an area they can not be easily removed by cropping. Don’t make it easy for them to steal your work, watermark everything.
Thanks for stopping by and don’t forget to watermark!
