I can’t wait to get started on the kitchen, but I have a lot of planning to do first.
One important design feature is lighting. Should I buy light fixtures or make my own? How much lighting will I need? Since I’m combining two rooms do I want to purchase two different light fixtures or keep them the same? We visited a local hardware store looking for lighting ideas for the kitchen.
I’ve seen a few DIY’s to create this light feature using wine bottles. It looks simple enough to make and sure wouldn’t cost $80 to make. Hmm, I love this look and it would fit into my design.
Isn’t this light fixture really cool. It really doesn’t fit my design, but I thought I would share anyways.
My hubby pointed out this dual purpose light feature. I would love to have a pot rack in the kitchen and this light fixture provides the rack and lighting all in one piece. Hmm, it’s a huge possibility!
The birdcage! Yep, I’ve seen a few of these DIYs on Pinterest. I’m not a huge fan of the bling but the cage is sweet!
The lantern! Rustic, black and yes this would definitely fit into the design. Hmmm, so many possibilities.
So many possibilities to choose from. This is definitely something that will take some consideration.
Should I buy or purchase the light features, that is the question. Stay tuned for more kitchen planning ideas to come. Thanks for stopping by.

One piece of advise DO NOT LET YOUR HUSBAND PICK OUT ANY MAJOR PIECE FOR YOUR KITCHEN or any other room!!!! Can you tell I have had a few experiences with this LOL! I didn’t want him to feel left out and I struggled with the design forever after. Good luck it will come together. At least you have time to plan when we did our kitchen it had to move fast because of an accident in the upstairs bathroom, I am so glad that is over!
There are so many unique light fixtures out there lately. I opted to buy when we recently finished our basement. I watched for sales at PB and checked around. If you are needing to watch your budget there are a lot of unique ones that can be made. Thanks for sharing with SYC. Can’t wait to see what you choose!
hugs,
Jann
I need to know where the birdcage one is – I need to have it! Please let me know! I’m in California 🙂
All of the lights pictured above were found at Menards. I searched their website and wasn’t able to find it online, but maybe you will have better luck. You could give them a call too. Good luck! http://www.menards.com
Lighting is so fun! I’m planning on redoing my kitchen later this year and am considering different lighting options. Good luck with your project!
