Our living room is fairly sized compared to homes in our area, but still lacks space. The front door, door to the staircase and a large archway to the dining room take up space on three out of four walls. Then add a fireplace, big screen TV and the option for furniture slowly disappears. What do you in this case? We saved space by mounting the tv on the wall above the fireplace.
Some people think this is a horrible idea. The TV shouldn’t be placed above a fireplace or treated as art or the man focal point of a room. I totally get that, but what if that is the main purpose of that room. The main purpose or the main use of our living room is to lounge on the couch and watch TV. It isn’t a showroom. We live in this house. If someone is in the living room the TV is on, period. So why wouldn’t the TV be the main focal point or star of the room?
The main reason we mounted the TV on the wall was to save space. In the current arrangement the only option for a place to lounge was the couch and with a family of 5 that wasn’t enough. Something would have to go. I love my fireplace and it wasn’t something I was willing to let go. We decided the best option was to mount the TV on the wall above the fireplace. This combined two large items that normally took up two walls and opened up space to add a small loveseat or chair.
Then comes the cord issue. How do you mount the TV on the wall and hide all of those cords? I searched Pinterest for a tutorial to hide those cords and I found an awesome tutorial by House of Hempworths. They show you step-by-step how to get the job done. It’s an easy project anyone can do and the outcome is so worth it.
I love it! All of those cords are tucked inside the wall and behind the fireplace. No more messy wires hanging everywhere.
If you follow Scrapality you might have noticed the color change. Yes, the brown is gone! I started painting the first floor of the house. It’s an amazing transformation. Everything was fairly dark and now it’s so bright. More to come on that subject later. Thanks for stopping by!
