Today I’m going to share with you a super easy way to remove paint. It starts with a product you can pick up at the local hardware store. It’s called Citristrip. Citristrip is a stripping gel without the harmful fumes leaving it safe to use in your home.
I love this stuff! It doesn’t smell horrible, easy to brush on, no drip and works in minutes. Brush gel on to painted surface and wait 30 minutes or longer and remove with a scraper. That’s it. Paint comes right off. For multiple layers repeat the process.
If you look at the picture above you can see the bubbled paint that literally is peeling away from the cabinet. I could easily remove the first couple layers after only one coat of Citristrip.
The paint on the other cabinet was a little more stubborn, it required a second coat. After removing the paint I will simply wash the cabinets with a nonabrasive soap and let dry.
What’s next? It’s time to paint the cabinets using homemade chalk paint. Stay tuned for pictures and a recipe.
