A few days ago a friend picked up twelve burlap potato sacks at an auction pretty cheap.
He asked if there was anything I could make with them. Of course! I rambled off a few projects and was thrilled when he asked if I wanted to purchase them.
Who wouldn’t?
I brought the potato sacks home and allowed them to air out a bit on the porch. Burlap sure is stinky. Plus, the sacks used to have tons of dirty potatoes stored in them.
I drew them a warm bubble bath with laundry detergent. I added enough laundry soap for a full load of laundry.
One by one, I submerged six of the sacks into the water.
Using my hands, I moved the sacks around, squished them in my fingers and flipped from over.
I then allowed the sacks to soak for a bit while I examined the remaining six sacks.
After they soaked, I pulled out each sack and rinsed them. The water was quite dirty.
Look how dirty the water was. That was just after six of the sacks. Gross!
After gently ringing the water out of the sacks, I hung the sack outside to dry.
It’ll take longer to dry because they’re hanging inside the enclosed porch, but I don’t want them out in the sun and rain.
They still reek of burlap, but at least they’re no longer filthy.
The sacks are now ready for a craft project or home decor project. I have a few ideas for these beauties.
Stay tuned!
