You have probably heard of the saying that “one man’s trash is another’s treasure,” and nowhere is that truer than with pallets. Yes, we are talking about the pallets used to ship products and goods across the country. These pallets come in different sizes, are most commonly made from wood, and are not anything special to look at. However, with a little creativity, imagination, and inspiration you can make something truly charming from them and add it to the décor or function of your home.
Check out the following ways you can turn pallets into home treasures:
Customized Outdoor Couch
Outdoor furniture tends to be rather pricey and lacking in uniqueness. If you are the type to like unique pieces, you will search forever for that perfect outdoor couch. This is where pallets can come in handy.
For this project, you will need two full-sized palettes, Colson caster wheel sets, and cushions made with outdoor-friendly fabric. The pallet will work as the base, which the wheels can be attached to. You can then place the pillows on the couch and create something that resembles a daybed.
As an added tip, make sure you use firm, thick cushioning as the seat so that it is comfortable to sit on.
A Rustic and Unique Bedding
Pallets also work for a unique and rustic looking headboard. It is up to you on how many you want to use, and the bigger you make it the more dramatic it will be. You can stain the pallets any color you like and add decals, designs, or anything else that strikes your interest. The pallet can then be anchored right to the wall.
Another option is to use pallets as the bed frame. The number of pallets will depend on how big your mattress is. Like the headboard, you can also stain the pallets any color you want.
A Sleek Console or Sofa Table
Sometimes, you need a small, sleek table to fit in your space. Console or sofa tables usually fit the bill but can be pricey and bulky. If you turn the pallet on its side and add a narrow piece of wood to the top, acting as the tabletop, you will find that you have the perfect console table. Again, you can go ahead and paint or stain the pallet whatever color you like.
A Deck of Pallets
This particular project requires a fair amount of pallets, but the results can be stunning. Use the pallets to create a deck of any size and configuration. Make sure to stain them and treat them for the outdoors. The great thing about this pallet deck is that it is essentially a floating deck so you can move it around as you like.
You can even take it further and make a table out of pallets, line the deck with a pallet screen for privacy, and create benches from the pallets. This project will cost a fraction of the price that a brand new wooden deck would cost, and you are helping the environment by using recycled materials.
One of a Kind Wine Racks
Instead of investing in expensive wine racks, you can turn the pallets on their sides and create a one-of-a-kind wine rack. For this project, you may find that it is best to take the pallet apart and use one section at a time. This project takes a bit of planning, but in the end, you can customize the racks to the desired size and color. As your collection of wine grows, you can always create a new wine rack.
A Comfortable Porch Swing
There is just something that is so soothing, comforting and relaxing about a porch swing. It signals the long, lazy days of summer where you can sit outdoors, sip a glass of sweet tea and watch the neighbors strolling by. A pallet makes for the perfect porch swing. It may take some reconfiguring to ensure the swing is sturdy and solid, and from there you can loop the thick rope around each end and secure it to the roof of the porch. Do not forget to add a decorative pillow or two to finish off the look.
Because you will be sitting on the pallets, you may also want to be sure that they are sanded and stained so you will not be dealing with splinters.
So Many Wonderful Uses
Pallets are one of those incredible items that truly have hundreds of uses. It is all about thinking outside the box, or pallet in this case, and letting your imagination take over. Add some unique charm, décor, and function to your home with pallets.
