People assume that it’s not possible to make your home look elegant when you’re on a small budget. People, however, are mistaken, because there are many ways to redecorate and even remodel your home while saving some money along the way. Here’s a brief list of frugal things you can do to make your home shine!
The matter of color
Often, paint color is the little thing that makes a difference between a boring, dull room and an elegant, stylish one. Picking the right color is never easy, and you should take your time when deciding which color to paint your walls and ceilings since you will have to base the remaining décor off that color palette. Instant elegance is often achieved with well-placed dark details, so paint your walls with soft, understated hues and paint the door black. It won’t cost you a fortune, and if you pair it with other black accessories, it will create an expensive look in an instant.
Soft elegance
The easiest way to punch-up the elegance factor is to get some carefully-picked throw pillows. Not only are they incredibly comfortable so you and your guests will be able to relax on the sofa, but they also provide a cozy, layered feeling to the room. The best thing is that these pillows can also be used to sit on in case you have more people coming over who don’t have a place to sit. Simply put a big, soft pillow on the ground and you’re ready. Not only are pillows easy to get, but you can make your own pillow covers from some leftover fabric. This means you’ll be able to upcycle all those old trees you don’t want to wear anymore.
Faux to the rescue
Fur has always been a symbol of elegance and luxury. Still, fur also means that animals were hurt, and it really costs a fortune. Luckily, there is a way to add some instant luxe to your home without going bankrupt. Faux fur is cheap, easy to get, and most importantly cruelty-free. Faux fur blankets, throws, and rugs will make your bedroom and living room look like a millionaire’s nest. Use this trick: get two or three faux fur throws and sew them together yourself (you can also get them sewn together if you’re not sure about your sewing skills). Not only will you have a fur blanket to drape over your bed, but it will be custom-made and unique.
A piece with patina
It was always considered classy to have a piece of furniture in your home that’s been in your family for generations. This doesn’t mean that you should go and get your grandma’s dusty couch from the storage unit, but a carefully picked piece with some patina and history will give your space a sense of wisdom and elegance. You can use an old mirror you got from your aunt that’s been in your attic for ages, or something as simple as an antique photo frame, and the older it is the better it will look.
A pinch of expensive
A little bit of luxury and extravagance goes a long way. You don’t have to spend a fortune on decorating and buying designer beds, sofas, and curtains. On the contrary, if you have one expensive piece in a room, you don’t have to spend a lot of money on other items. Stylish baths in the bathroom, designer lamp in the living room, a beautiful painting in the dining room… These things are noticeable enough to make any room look elegant without much effort.
With a little bit of imagination and creativity, you will be able to spruce up your home décor without breaking the bank. Some may think that a limited amount of money is a huge obstacle, but enthusiasm and willingness to improvise will make up for it.
