There is something both comforting and awe inspiring about the ocean. The sounds of crashing waves, the slight brine in the air, and the infinite expanse of the water that draws out our imagination and lets us see the world through the eyes of a child again. When decorating your beach front home, you want to emulate these feelings and emotions to provide that purest comfort. your beach house should make every second feel like a vacation, whether it is your everyday home, a second home, or your retirement dream abode.
Colours
Colours affect our moods more than we know. Ever noticed how most fast food restaurants are painted bright reds and yellows? There is a reason for that. Research has shown that those two colours are hunger inducing and energy enhancing. Basically, you will want to eat and get going fast – perfect for a place like that. In your home though, painting for calm and tranquillity is the goal. Soft colours, be it blues and greens, greys, purples or corals, are soothing to the soul. Use these as accent colours with a neutral or paint a full room. These colours are reflective of those naturally found within a seascape, making your beach home and your beach backyard cohesive.
Keep it Easy
Just as the soft lap of waves washes away any stressful feelings, so should stepping into your beachfront property. Making your home your own little retreat, your little place of comfort will be sure to keep stress low and flood all who enter with peace of mind. Keeping decor simple and clean is the way to go. Reclaimed wood benches and tables, your favourite tapestries or artwork on the walls, or driftwood furniture will keep your home reminiscent of the ocean and are easy to clean and care for.
Bring the Outside In
There is something impossibly charming about seashells, oddly shaped bit of driftwood, and rocks smoothed by the tides. They also happen to make great decor in any home and, if you are living on the beach, they are right there for the gathering. Shells, stones, and driftwood come in so many different shades that there is no doubt that a half hour’s shoreline excursion will result in finding numerous bits and bobs that will accent your home’s interior colours and current decor.
