A game room is a great part of everyone’s home, not just for the kids but for the entire family. Just imagine having a room filled with game tables like a foosball table, pool table, ping pong table, or even video consoles like Play Station or Xbox. It is possible, especially if you have one room at home which you don’t use. The most common part of the house for a game room in the basement. A basement is a great option because it is separated from the rest of the house so you can be as loud as you can without interrupting your family.
Measure the room
Before making the best game room there is, measure the room so you can see how much space you have. Measuring the room will help you organize the space. You can separate the gaming area from the TV area and, if there is a room, you can put a hangout area. That way you can play on the foosball table in one corner and talk with your friends in the other.
Design the room
In the beginning, the room will be a blank slate which is great because you can decorate it the way you want. Think about the color of the walls and the position of the lights. Keep the wall color palette bright, especially if you are in the basement because most basements have one or two windows, which is not much. By coloring the wall in white, light yellow, mint or some other light color you will brighten the basement and make it appear larger than it really is. Also, you can play with the lighting. Keep the game tables area bright and put the light right on the table, but keep the TV area darker. That way you can use it as a home theatre as well.
Fill the room
Now that your room looks nice and bright, you can start filling it with game tables and other furniture. Keep in mind that you need about 3-5 feet space for a game table like foosball table and even more for a pool table because it is bigger. In the video games area, you can pick the game chairs which are designed for this particular situation. They are good for your back and you won’t feel cramped after sitting in them. The TV area (or the home theatre area) is the best to fill with extra comfortable couch, armchair or tabouret which can use as a storage. Don’t forget to put some soft blankets for the movie night.
Decorate the room
The game room is not a game room without proper decoration. Pick up posters of your favorite sports team or heroes and fill the walls with it. You can even paint a part of the wall in chalkboard paint so you can keep the score for the game table area. The hangout area can have a fridge, a shelf with snacks and board games. The main goal is to make a light and playful room where people are relaxed and to do that, use funny and charming gadgets that suit your personality best.
When the game room is finally done you can enjoy in every inch because you will know that the room is made for you and your family. The perfect way to relax is to hang out with your loved ones and the perfect place for that is your game room. ☺
