One of the contemporary and strongly emerging ways to floor new houses and renovate the old ones is by the use of engineered wood. It’s commonly referred to as engineered wood flooring and has certain advantages which have been the reason for its rising popularity. Most people, who love the feel and look of timber, but want to bypass the disadvantages associated with pure timber floors, choose engineered timber flooring. And you must know the best reasons behind the choice to make your choice firmer and better.
What is engineered wood?
Engineered timber is where a man uses technology to use timber as the raw material with other chemicals, resins, and polymers for building a composite material which is transformed into sheets. These sheets have the properties of timber with enhanced strength and long durability.
The thickness of the engineered wood sheets can vary as per the choice of the user. They are manufactured for various floor types and purposes in various thicknesses. The main idea is to use a timber top and bottom layer for backing, support, feel and look while using crushed timber and other composite materials as the filler to add to its extra durability and strength. This also seasons the wood sheet to neither catch mold and fungi, and never rot, and nor get pest and termite infested. With these, the wood sheets are also enhanced with fireproofing. Altogether their quality is really commendable.
The engineered wood sheets are also shrinkage and expansion proof. One common problem which most timber floor users face sometimes is that the floor shrinks and expands respectively with cold and humid conditions. But engineered timber flooring is not like that due to the construction and inner layers. Hence, the floors never turn too loose or creaky as is found in case of hardwood floating floors.
Now when do you need to use engineered timber flooring
Which situation can be the right to choose this type of flooring is a statement to understand. Normally wood floors are great to add value to the property and add tasteful look. But they are not tolerant to water pooling or a huge amount of humidity and may rot, catch molds, or get infested. That is why engineered timber flooring, has been created to deliver the look and feel of hardwood with the special characteristic to withstand high moisture contact for years without getting affected.
Moreover, these come at a very reasonable price, and engineered wood floors are very economic compared to hardwood. Hence, when you are trying to save some money with flooring while having a fascination for the hardwood floor and look, and want the floor to last for years also in all climate, then you may go for engineered timber flooring.
Styling with engineered wood floors
Styling can come in unlimited ways with engineered timber flooring because the top layer of wood pasted on the planks makes for the look, and this can be custom selected from several variants, textures, colors, and patterns. Hence when you are concerned especially about the texture, color, polish, and overall looks, you really get a lot of options in a price range to go for. Contrary to hardwood floors, where you pay a different price for the different texture and color offered due to the different wood type, here the looks can dramatically be changed while keeping the price range same.
FINALLY
When you have fixed mind about getting your flooring done with engineered timber, it’s time to talk to a flooring contractor, and choose and buy the planks for the floor you like. Engineered wood flooring can give your home a polished tasteful look instantly while giving you value for money.

I have been wanting to get new flooring for my home and someone suggested I try getting some timber floors. That is great that timber floors are manufactured in various thickness! I like the idea of being able to pick how thick I would like the floor. It would be nice to save a little money getting a thinner size! Thank you for all the information!
I had no idea that timber flooring could have different textures, patterns, and colors. My current floors are very worn and old, so I’ve been considering getting new flooring. How long does it typically last?
It’s interesting to know that the reason the engineered timber flooring’s popularity has been soaring high is due to its many benefits like it has improved strength and long lifespan. If the engineered timber flooring could neither have mold nor fungi, definitely it is a good material compared to others easily destroyed by such mold or fungi. If ever we will replace our tiles in our bedrooms, I will suggest an engineered timber flooring instead as a good alternative instead.
Thanks for pointing out that engineered timber flooring has been created to have the look and feel of hardwood, but is better able to withstand high moisture contact. My husband and I are thinking about changing to timber floors in our living room to make it easier to clean. I think that this kind of flooring would also add a level of class to the room as well as be easier to take care of and more durable. It’s a win-win!
