Want to update your bathroom, but don’t have the cash for a full refit? We have just the guide for you! There are plenty of ways you can spruce up your space without splashing out thousands of dollars. With a lick of paint, some DIY tiling and some small fixture updates, your room will look brand new!
Here’s our top list of things you can switch up on the cheap that will make your bathroom unrecognizable!
- Unusual Mirrors
Most bathrooms have just the one mirror, rectangle-shaped, above the sink. How about something different? Changing this one important feature will update the look of your entire bathroom.
Consider interesting shapes like ovals, circles, window-style, or even something zany like hearts or stars. You could even cover a whole feature wall in mirrored glass. Try something functional and funky like a mirror with built-in LED lights. Whatever you choose, make sure you get a steam-resistant glass!
- Drawer & Door Handles
If you’ve recently changed your wall color and added some new extras, make sure your handles and fixtures still match. Mixing gold and silver fixtures isn’t a good look!
Switch your palette so that all your lighting, handles and things like taps and bath feet match. This will bring the whole look together and make everything look streamlined and intentional. This is a quick fix you can do in under an hour that will cost very little!
- Lighting Fixtures
New light fixtures can be picked up for surprisingly cheap and installed quickly by an electrician. (Always ensure electrical changes are performed by a licensed electrician when doing bathroom renovations!)
Go from harsh overhead orange-tinged lighting to soft, up-lit wall sconces, or choose an eye-catching lighting design like a chandelier over the bathtub or strip lighting along the tops of your walls for a contemporary look.
- Counter Top Stickers
Want marble countertops without the huge expense of buying real marble? This is possible: countertop stickers are a thing!
Marble-effect adhesive vinyl comes in strips and allows you to cut the material to exactly fit your surface. It can be found inexpensively on Amazon or in kitchen/bathroom stores, which means you can cheat and have waterproof marble countertops on the cheap!
- Blinds & Curtains
Heavy curtains look chic in the bathroom but can be impractical – they easily get damp and wet, meaning they can become smelly and moldy. If you have great ventilation in your bathroom, however, this shouldn’t be a problem. Thick curtains can make space look classy and luxurious.
Practical blinds look chic as well as functional – try wooden blinds, especially in white or dark wood, coupled with gold fixtures in the bathroom. Make sure you order the correct size, and then easily hang them up yourself.
- Interesting Flooring
If you can’t afford to do over your entire bathroom, changing the flooring is a great place to start if you want to renovate it one bit at a time. If you want a unique and cozy bathroom, try having a carpet – although, in the same way as having bathroom curtains, ensuring you have adequate ventilation is key to preventing mold and dampness.
More practical ideas include the traditional black and white tile design that will never go out of fashion, or wooden floors. To make things look homelier, add a rug (although make sure it is fixed to the floor to prevent slipping with wet feet!). If you’re a pro with a measuring tape, you could lay a floor all by yourself.
- Embellishments
No bathroom is complete without some ornaments and personal effects. While your beauty products should be neatly stowed away in a cabinet, things like candles, fake or fresh flowers, and interesting ornamental items should decorate your countertops to make things feel like home.
Add scent diffusers to ensure your bathroom always smells delightful and fresh, and make sure there are always candles for relaxing baths.
