Power tools: Whether you need to buy these power tools such as a drill, the circular saw, grinders and more for your work or you need to repair some minor things at home. It depends on your requirement and usage whether you will be better off with a corded or a cordless power tool.
Corded Power tools
- Corded power tools have both their advantages and disadvantages. First of all is the endless power supply and there is no requirement for charging again and again. This is particularly beneficial if you have to work long hours and have construction work. Thus, it would save a lot of time that would be required to charge a cordless power tool.
- However, there is always a chance of tripping over the wires and the extension cords especially in a construction unit while using a corded power tool. Moreover, corded power tools do not offer you the flexibility to roam around and you are bound to the wall with the power socket.
- Heavy duty tools such as the circular saw are preferred to de corded as they require high electricity consumption and if they are cordless, they would be heavier than the corded ones and would be needed to charge again and again due to the higher workload.

- Cordless Power Tools are easier to pack and have a comparatively long life as they do not have the disadvantage of wear and tear of the wiring system. They are portable and can be easily carried from one place to another.
- Cordless Tools offer us the flexibility of taking our tool to the site of our work and we do not have to be hooked to the wall.
- In construction sites where the electrical circuit has not been set up, carrying a generator to the site and setting up extension cords so that the corded tools can work is not only an expensive solution but also is difficult to work out due to the bulk of the generator and the time this set up will consume.
- However, the batteries of the cordless power tools are quite expensive and if you wish to opt for the cheaper option, they will require constant recharging after prolonged use over a long time, the batteries wear off and will need to be replaced.
Advantages of corded power tools over cordless ones
- They are cheaper than the cordless ones.
- They are easier to carry
- No extra costs on the batteries
- The cost of repairs is lower
- In cordless tools, as the battery starts wearing off, the performance level decreases which is not the case of corded ones as they have consistent performance.
- They can be used for prolonged times without any worry for charging again and if one forgets to charge a cordless tool, that will lead to a wastage of work hours.
- They are usually lighter in weight than the cordless ones and more powerful.
- They do not have restrictions on power and voltage.
Advantages of cordless power tools over corded ones
- The chief advantage is the convenience of using a cordless tool. This is because whether you have to fix something in the garage or the kitchen, you do not have to worry about the power sockets and the cords dangling around. This is a very handy approach with no wires to be worried about.
- Earlier the cordless tools were very heavy and difficult to operate but with the new technologies and the lithium-powered batteries, they have become less bulky and easier to work with.
- In a place where the wiring has not yet done, instead of for waiting probably another week or hauling a generator, cordless tools make the job easier.
- With new and stronger batteries, cordless tools can be used for heavy duty works without the need for constant recharging.
- They are easier to store as the wires of the corded gradually develop breaks in their insulation which is a great hazard.
Eventually, the choice depends upon your requirement whether you are more comfortable with a corded power tool or a cordless one. If you only need the tool for the regular repairs around the house or building a bookshelf and such, cordless tools are recommended.
However, instead of the Lithium batteries with longer life, choose the alternatives which although have a shorter lifespan, are not as heavy as the lithium ones. If you need it for short miscellaneous jobs, the lithium battery cordless power tools are ideal for you.
While running heavy duty tools, corded ones are the recommended choice. Same is the case if you are a construction worker as the cordless ones will waste a lot of time during their charging.
