If you have come across this article, then the chances are that you’ve finally taken out the time to work on your basement. Decorating and renovating the basement is a task everyone looks forward too, but can’t take out the time. Decorating a basement can have endless possibilities, and that is why it is my area of expertise. While it may seem like a tiresome task, imagine the numerous possibilities you can make it out to be. Whether you want a man cave or a comfy place to be alone and enjoy, you can make it anything you want.
- Make Sure the Floor is Cleaned Properly
The first thing that you should do before you get started is to clean your floors. You should consult an expert on what chemical you should use. First I used a rich sodium-based phosphate to clean my floors, and then I used the necessary seal to make sure no moisture could enter through the ground. Remember that the floor is the base of the room and should be your first priority.
- Use Vinyl Flooring
While you can use other options for flooring, I recommend vinyl flooring due to its vast range of available designs, colors and the overall look it gives to the room. It is also an affordable option that you should go for. You should know when and where to splurge. If you save money on the flooring, you can invest in other necessary options that can be of more use.
- Maintain Temperature
Since you’re in the basement, maintaining the temperature can be a little tricky. Remember to seal the concrete so that there isn’t any moisture that can lead to water sports on the paneling of the walls and the floor. Make sure to open the small windows near the ceiling. If fresh air doesn’t pass through, your basement can become the breeding ground of bacteria and bed bugs.
- Invest in Entertainment Options
The money you saved from flooring can be invested in entertainment options. You can replace the old TV with a new one, buy a PlayStation, get a pool table, etc. Remember the basement is supposed to be a place where you can relax and have fun. Try to invest in options that are according to your taste so that you can spend quality time down there after putting in so much effort.
- Focus on the Walls
Instead of using wallpaper in the basement, it is better to use paint as it is more resistant to moisture. Try to use bright colors that can brighten up the place. Pair the paint with the rest of the furniture so you can create a wholesome look.
Remember that there is no wrong way to decorate your basement. The above-mentioned ways are some pointers you should keep in mind to make sure you don’t have to face problems later on. If you think I’ve missed something you think is important, feel free to mention in the comments below.
