Every now and then there is a big urge to do something big in your life. It might be that you are ready to launch a business, it could be that you are considering selling your home and moving on to pastures new, or it might just be a really long vacation.
We know in ourselves when it is time to move on. And when it hits you, you can find yourself browsing through site after site, looking at houses, jobs, new schools for the kids, the best route to the local bakery and of course something like the green moving company.

Clean and Declutter
Before you think about moving, you are really going to have to go to the things that you currently own. The chances are you aren’t going to take so much of it with you. For two reasons – over the years we gather a lot of things we don’t really need. And the second reason is that everything that you take, takes up space in the moving van – and if you aren’t sure about it, then it isn’t worth paying for.
When you are decluttering think about a couple of things:
- Donation – getting rid of things that are in working order and could have a second life
- Trash – things that are busted, have parts missing or can’t be used by others
- Sell – things that are worth a bit of cash, but you aren’t using
Give the place a deep clean as you go – you’ll have less to do at the end.
Important Stuff
You are going to need a new dentist, doctor, and branch of your bank. You should give the ones the most local to your new home a call to make sure that they have space for you and your family to be taken on. Sometimes they just don’t have the room, and you should make every effort to find a backup.
Get all of your medical records in order, so that if you are required to show them, you can. This goes for things like vaccinations, any long term illnesses, and so on.
Ensure that you know all of the rules in the local council area for when you move. Do you need to go to the building and bring any ID with you? Or will a simple change of owner details satisfy them?
Make sure that you call to have your utilities all canceled and the new place ready to get the internet hooked up – this is even more important if you work from home, or you’ll be losing those working hours too.
Join Groups
If you can think of a group for it, there will probably be one on Facebook. If you want to get integrated into the area as fast as possible, then you are certainly going to want to check some groups out. If you are locating somewhere that you speak a different language, then it will really help you meet new people and feel a bit more at home.
