We’re into October now, and, while it’s still quite a while away, you have every right to start feeling a little excited about the big day. It only happens once a year, and it’s pretty special, so if it’s not weird if you get some butterflies. Even those that aren’t the biggest fan of Christmas still admit that it’s a great day to spend with those they love and to cherish all of the good things they have in life. All in all, it’s a pretty wonderful time, so you’ll want to ensure the day goes perfectly from start to finish.
While it’s a magical day, it’s not actually brought to us with magic. We have to be grown-ups and prepare for it all. If we don’t get everything sorted, then we won’t get to have the best possible time. It sounds pretty harsh, but it’s a harsh truth. Yes, A Christmas Carol taught us that you don’t NEED to have everything in order to have a great time on this special occasion, but lots of preparation and many added extras will only increase the feel-good factor of the day.
As a kid, you never really had to worry about handling things because your parents would do it all for you. This continued into your teens and through your adolescence. Christmas was your time to relax and let Santa Claus do everything for you. You’re now at the stage where you need to buck your ideas up. You’re the one in charge of things now, and you need to get everything handled before 25th December – you wouldn’t be here reason this post otherwise!
You can rest assured, however, because this job isn’t too difficult. It’s actually fairly straightforward – it’s just a case of getting up, getting out of the house, and doing something about it. Things that tend to give you the most satisfaction are the ones that you’ve worked at a lot. That said, why not work pretty darn hard at this and reap the benefits afterward? Here are a few things that you should get sorted before the big day:
Think About Where You’ll Spend It
Most families like spending Christmas Day or the entire week in the comfort of their own homes. It’s a pretty intimate time for many so that privacy is important while cherishing each other’s company. Some like to go away for the entire week – the idea of spending Christmas in a lovely environment with lots of luxurious things around is pretty enticing, too! It’s obviously up to you; there is no wrong answer here, so you’re free to do whatever you wish.
If you have a big family with lots of extended relatives, then you might end up getting up and heading over to their places in the morning and early afternoon. As we said before, it’s a day where cherishing loved ones are abundant, seeing them would be a huge part of the magic. Yes, even those family members that you don’t even know or like! If there’s one day where everyone will get along; it’s this one!
Get The Decorations!
A big part of the preceding weeks building up to the big day (and the day itself) are the decorations! Sure, if you’re a pretty tame person, then you won’t want to do much, but this is your chance to have a little fun around the house – and, sometimes, even outside the house! Decorating a Christmas tree and everything around it is great. You also get to exhibit some of your creativity! Before you even start decorating, however, you need to actually head to the supermarket and buy some – make sure they’re ready for you to play with!
Draw Up A Little Plan For The Day
We’ve talked about what you might do on the day, but you’ll probably want to come up with a little itinerary for the day, too. You don’t want to laze around all day because you have no idea what to do! Loads of people do that, and they end up rueing it! It doesn’t have to be special or detailed; something simple and nice would do. It might seem like a boring task, but it’ll be worth it when the day comes!
Head To The Store As A Family
There’s no reason why you and the clan can’t all head to town as a group and get what you need together. It’s not just the day that matters – it’s the whole season. If only one of you goes into the shop and gets everything, then it’s not the same. If you all go together, then you’ll each be able to pick things out – it’ll make everything more diverse and different!
Get All The Presents Bought
Probably the most important point in terms of material goods, right? The presents are a big part of Christmas, so you should probably do all your shopping before it’s too late! You probably have an idea of what your kids want because they’ve probably talked about what they want for quite a while. If you still feel as though they should have a little more, then you might want to check with other parents and see what kind of things they’ll be getting their kids. Thinking of children’s Christmas gift ideas isn’t easy, so you’ll have to think pretty wisely! As for the grown-ups in your family? Well, they’ll be content with whatever you get them! It’s the thought that counts! The time off of work is enough of a present. Anything else is just a bonus!
Choose A Film Or Two That You Might Want To Watch
If you’re going to be spending the entire day indoors, then perhaps a film might be a good idea. It’s a great way for you all to sit around together as a family. There will be heaps of movies on TV around Christmas, so if you can’t think of something to watch, then there will be some gold for you to choose from on cable.
Ready The Alcohol!
This is if you drink, of course! If you don’t, then you can completely ignore most of this! There’s nothing wrong with becoming a little merry on Christmas, right? Staying sober is obviously fine, but a little drink here and there can add a little more spice to the proceedings!
