If there are some things that connect us all across the world – it is a daily routine. Waking up, brushing teeth, taking a shower and washing our hair. Most of us have hair – more or less of it – and we all want to care for the hair we have. Even if you’re keeping yours really short, you want to make sure it’s in good health and in good shape. Having a “bad hair day” can translate to having a bad day in general, just like your hair looking perfect can make you feel better about yourself and give you confidence. But what if I told you that the regular, off-the-shelf shampoo you’re using is actually not good for your hair? Here’s why natural shampoos are better:
Your hair doesn’t need much
We all seem to think that the stronger the chemicals in the shampoo, the cleaner our hair will be – but this is the opposite of the truth. Your hair needs very little to be clean and many times the bubbles that are formed while you’re shampooing your hair are literally added there just because we’re taught to think that bubbles = cleanliness. Furthermore, regular shampoos will not just wash your hair, but because they’re quite aggressive, they will also strip it of its natural oils, meaning that your hair will get greasy faster because it needs to replenish the oils that were stripped. A natural shampoo will just wash off the dirt without disturbing the natural features of the hair.
Your color will stay on longer
For people who dye their hair – and especially those who dye it in a color much different than their natural color – it’s important that the color stays on and stays vibrant for as long as possible. The natural shampoo will usually allow you to keep your color for longer because they just aren’t strong enough to take out the color from the strands. So your color will stay on for longer and you can wash your hair daily (if needed) without the fear of having washed-out colors.
Long and lasting nourishment
Commercial shampoos are made to give you instant results that look good, no matter what will happen with your hair in the long run. This is why a lot of people gravitate towards them because after the first wash you’ll feel that your hair is softer – even if that might mean it’s breaking apart. But if you use something like a nourishing black seed shampoo you will actually have ingredients that are working together with your hair and your scalp to nourish and hydrate it from within. At first, your hair will just be clean and smell good, but with constant use, you will see it getting stronger shinier and you’ll see it doesn’t get greasy as fast as with regular shampoo. This is the choice we make with many of our products: do we want lasting results and to actually invest in our body, or do we want quick results that will ultimately damage our hair?
Better for the Earth
We have one planet and it’s about time we start thinking of ways to save it from ourselves. In the manufacture of regular shampoos, not only is the packaging nearly always one-time-use plastic, but there are a bunch of chemicals being dumped into the ground and water as waste, poisoning the land slowly. With natural shampoos, the ingredients are just that – natural. This means that the waste that is created during the production is much less harmful when discarded. Additionally, natural shampoos often have eco-friendly packaging, meaning either no packaging at all, recyclable packaging, or refillable ones that you can top off once you run out without the need for a new container.
You might argue that natural shampoos are sometimes more expensive, or that your hairdresser doesn’t use natural shampoo, so how could it be better? But just use your common sense and ask yourself whether you want something that is being put on your skin and that is penetrating your scalp daily to be artificial and chemically made, or do you want it coming from nature, with no need for warning labels and potential damages. And if you’re still on the fence, just set yourself a challenge to try it for a few months, until one bottle or bar runs out – and then make the permanent switch.
