It can be so nice to be at home for the holidays. But once the festivities are over, the decorations are down, and the holiday food is all gone, then it can be the right time to get your house organized and ready for the new year. So with that in mind, here are some New Year’s resolutions for your home, to help it run well and keep going smoothing as you go into 2020 and beyond. What will you be getting started with first? It would be great to hear what you think.
Clear out the kitchen cupboards
Starting the year off in an organized and sorted way needs to start with your kitchen cupboards. It is a good idea to restock the essentials, like flour, sugar, and tinned goods. But as you do this, it is a good idea to clear out all of the items that are out of date, or that won’t get used for a while, like packets of sauce or gravy, for example. You can use up leftovers and then start the new year in such a good way without waste.
Don’t double up
If you want to eliminate clutter, then you need to make sure that you don’t double up on items. If you have so many toiletries, cleaning products, and other items in the home that you have more than one, then it is time to work through them. If you have two shampoo bottles of the same brand, for instance, then it can be a great idea to make sure that you pour one into the other (or just finish one properly before carrying on with the bottle). It can be a quick and easy way to stop doubling up and reduce clutter.
Fix appliances
Money can be tight around the holidays, so getting the dishwasher fixed or sorting the second refrigerator in the garage can seem like something that you’re not quite ready to spend on. But when the holidays are over and the new year is well underway, it is the time to fix those niggly things that you’ve been putting off. Getting in a professional to fix your appliances can mean that it is all done quickly and can make such a difference. So what will you be looking at getting fixed first? It can make a difference and really help to get all of your houses in order.
Find a way to file
If mail and paperwork is something that freaks you out and you often just put it off, then start the new year without overcomplicating things. Finding something that works for you is really important, but it could work by getting folders and files that will help you to get yourself organized. Then label things up like ‘school’ and ‘banking’ to help you know what goes where. Put it somewhere that is accessible and then you will know what goes where, and you know where to look when it is time to do something with it.
