Kids are not as active as they used to be – they are focused on their phone’s screens and playing with their game consoles. It is essential to teach your kids how to be active so that they can stay fit and healthy throughout their lives. If you want your kids to be more active, here are some ideas to help you out.
Be a Role Model
Kids often see their parents as role models, especially since they see their parents every day – therefore, you have to be a role model. If they see you relaxing on the couch and watching TV all day, they will follow in your footsteps. Show them that you like to be active by doing sports, going to the gym, or by taking regular walks. Plus, this is an excellent benefit for your health too!
Create a Playground
A playground in your backyard is a fun way to let your kids be active without being far from home. If you have space in your backyard, take advantage of it. You can get them flying fox play equipment, monkey bars, etc. to encourage them to be outside and get their energy out. It lets your kids enjoy a personal playground and burn up all that extra energy!
Create a Schedule
Kids need a schedule to keep them stimulated – they have specific times that they wake up, get ready for school, eat their meals, study, play, etc. You can try to make a schedule for times that they would be active each day. Usually, about 30 minutes to 1 hour of exercise every day should be good enough for them to keep fit. Do not aim for anything longer than 1 hour and 30 minutes because that can wear them out.
Find a Sport They Love
Let your kids try out different sports and activities until they decide they found one that they love. You can enroll them in basic classes like soccer, ballet, karate, boxing, hip hop dancing, etc. It will let them test the waters of each sport, and they can tell you which one they love the most. If you allow your kids to find which sport they enjoy, they will love practicing it and being active. Make sure your kid enjoys the activities that they do – that way, they will not feel forced to do it.
Quality Time
A great way to bond with your kids and get them to exercise is to play with them. Play sports like basketball or soccer with your kids or have a classic game of catch. You can take the activities up a notch with hikes, going to the local swimming pool, etc. to make it a great family day! It will be loads of fun for the whole family, and it is an excellent way for everyone to stay fit.
Limit the Electronics
Try to put a limit on how much your kids can use the electronics. Let them have 1-2 hours of TV time every night or let them use their phones when they finish their homework. The less time they spend on electronics, the more time they will spend on doing other activities to keep them active.
Keeping your kids healthy and active is not hard – try out the ideas above to keep them happy and in shape.
