We all know the benefits of going to the gym, but sometimes this isn’t enough to motivate us into getting off the couch. Here are just a few different ways of encouraging you to get down the gym.
Pick the right time
Not everyone feels ready to take on the gym first thing in the morning – some prefer to head to the gym in the evening. Others may prefer it the other way around. By finding the time of day when you are most motivated, you can create a workout schedule that you’re more likely to want to follow. Make sure to also factor in other commitments that you may have.
Find a training buddy
Having somebody to train with could be a good motivation. If you don’t go to the gym, you’ll be letting them down. It could also give you somebody to talk to while you’re there, allowing your gym time to also function as a social catch up. When choosing a training buddy, try to look for someone with the same fitness goals as you. They also need to be available whenever you are available.
Dress for a workout
The way you dress can affect the way you feel. Investing in some comfortable and trendy workout clothes could make you feel more ready to take on the gym. You can shop for gym clothing online. Not all gym clothing is expensive – there are plenty of affordable and high-quality brands out there.
Vary up your routine
Constantly following the same workout can cause many people to get bored (it may even be stunting your fitness progress). Try to do exercises in a different order or try to use different machinery in order to shake things up. You could even try doing an all-leg day or an all-upper-body day rather than trying to target all of your body each time.
Sign up to classes
Many gyms provide classes dedicated to various sports and activities. Popular classes include spin classes, circuit classes, martial arts, dance, and gymnastics. Such classes could provide a workout while teaching new skills and helping you to meet people. All in all, they could offer the excitement you need if you’re not feeling motivated by regular gym workouts.
Reward yourself after
Having something to look forward to afterward can also spur you to go to the gym. If your gym has spa facilities such as a sauna, this could be a nice treat to look forward to after. Alternatively, you could treat yourself to an unhealthy snack as a reward for your workout. You could even simply reward yourself with a nap. Whatever you choose as the reward, just make sure that you only indulge in it on the condition that you go for your workout first.
