Did you know that a messy house could increase the chances of depression?
Everybody wants to live in a healthy environment. A clean home brings a sense of achievement, and, more so, you encourage a healthy lifestyle for everyone living in that household. Again, that atmosphere encourages you to even become and feel better. Hence, learning how to clean your house should not be a chore but a way of enhancing your life.
But what if you do not know how you can do this like a professional? Well, that should not be a problem anymore. Here are ten tips that could help you clean your house like how the pros do it.
- Have a cleaning schedule
Cleaning a house regularly demands discipline. Not everyone likes to do chores, and so, you must have a cleaning schedule. In your efforts to create one, get to know what you want to achieve.
If you can answer this question, then you will be able to decide how you will be cleaning your house, and how often you will be doing it. Some areas of the house do not demand, though, that you wash them weekly; however, that does not mean that you do it when you feel like it. That is why we are creating a cleaning schedule in the first place.
- Gather the required cleaning tools
Before you start cleaning anything, you need to know what you require. Some stains demand a particular set of tools to come off easily. The first thing on this list is to have a bucket or a storage caddy to carry your tools when washing the various rooms in your home. By doing this, you do not need to go back to pick them.
Other tools that you need include cleansing agents, microfiber towels, paper towels, brushes, long-handled brooms, rags, and vacuum cleaners. In this case, since we know getting the right cleaner could be challenging, here is the SpotlessMag’s dust cleaning guide
to help you in selecting the best one for your needs.
- Start Decluttering
Do not start cleaning before you collect all the things that are lying around your house. Start by putting the things you do not require into a trash can. These could include clothes, documents, books, newspapers, and any other thing that you find unuseful. You can also donate, by the way.
If you do not have any clutter, then you can remove sanded or dirty bedsheets and throw them in the washing machine. The washing machine can be doing its job while you continue with your cleaning.
- Apply cleansing solutions first and leave them to do their job
The next thing you have to do is apply the best cleaning solutions on different surfaces that you need to clean. For instance, the toilet bowl, the oven, microwaves, fridge, and sinks.
Many people make a mistake of wiping the solutions before they can interact with the stains.
Now that is wrong. Instead, give it time to deal with the dirt by itself. You can come back later to do the wiping.
- Start washing from the top
Instead of first starting with vacuuming the floor or mopping it, you should start with the ceiling and walls. The dirt on them will fall on the floor, and if you washed it earlier, then you would have to repeat it again.
Use the microfiber towel to wash the light fixtures and the long-handled broom to dust and deal with cobwebs. You can also dish wash glass made installations on the ceiling. Scrub every stain or dirt on the wall with the microfiber towel.
- Dust all surfaces, now
Your next step is to dust all surfaces. Start with upholstery. Run the vacuum cleaner on these surfaces. By doing this, You remove all the mold and dust present on them. You can also run the vacuum cleaner below the sofas, tables, and beds to dust away any dirt left there.
After this, use the microfiber towel to wipe surfaces and furniture. These towels are preferable to paper towels because they do not leave any dust or mold behind, mainly when you use them when it is damp.
- Clean all the windows
Since you sprayed the windows with some of the cleansing agents, use the microfibers to clean them. The paper towels also come in handy here. You can use them to wipe the water away. Newspapers too, do a great job if you do not have paper towels.
On the outer parts of the windowpane, you can use a squeegee to clean it. Squeegees are useful because they leave glares, rarely.
Take note to clean your windows from outside, as well. Typically, most of the grime, dirt, and stain is found from the outside windows. You might find them harder to reach, though. So use a hose, and get some window cleaning tools like water-fed tools, for a thorough and easy cleaning process.
- Go back and clean areas with the cleansing agents
By now, the areas where you had applied the solutions in step 4 are ready for cleaning. Use a brush where necessary or bristled brush to wipe off any dirt on the surface.
You can also use a rag where necessary, especially when wiping off the water. On that note; do not clean the sink before you wash the dishes on it.
- Mop the floor
After you are through with the dusting, it is time to mop the entire floor. Ensure that you pass the mop to every part of your level. That includes any area behind or under the heavy furniture in your home.
When cleaning hard-to-reach areas, you can use a rag. For instance, when wiping the area behind the toilet seat.
- Tips for cleaning the kitchen
Start by removing any expired food from the kitchen before cleaning the fridge. To ensure that the smell does not stick around, ensure that you remove the trash immediately.
When cleaning this room, ensure that you clean the cabinets, the countertops, drawers, your stove, and organize everything in those drawers.
Bottom line
The process of cleaning your home should not be that fun. But since you are doing this to ensure that you are healthy and that most of your devices last longer, then it is a worthy cause. Set enough time for cleaning your house when coming up with the cleaning schedule. Remember also; a clean house reduces the chances of getting unnecessary allergies.
