Type of Printer
The type of printer you use is the first thing to consider. Inkjet printers and laser printers use different papers. You must buy transfer papers that are compatible with your printer. Laser transfer papers work on laser printers, and inkjet transfer papers work for inkjet printers.
Colour of the Fabric
It is an important consideration because light-colored fabrics require different transfer papers than dark-colored fabrics. Ink and toner work accurately on white backgrounds and have much better visibility. They don’t have the same visibility on darker fabric and usually have a white backing to improve the visibility. Transfer papers intended for white fabrics have a clear transfer layer.
Type of Artwork
What type of artwork are you planning to print? Will it involve complicated patterns with a high level of detail? Will you be printing an actual photograph with a multitude of colors? Will you be doing vector graphics? Or will you be printing simple images?
For vector graphics and other simple prints, practically any transfer paper would work. However, if you plan on printing photographs, you’re better off using inkjet transfer paper. Laser transfer papers are more difficult for printing photos.

The length of the paper is something you should consider. You can decide on the paper’s length based on the fabric’s length and the size of the image.

Durability can be decided by assessing things like the vibrancy of colors, cracking resistance, feeling, and fading resistance. A good quality transfer paper combined with proper transfer techniques can offer the best durability. You must never compromise on quality when buying transfer papers.
